introduction for draft 4

I know most of first year college students are never looking forward to being forced to live in a residence hall, but it is something that almost all of students have to experience. I am one of these students and I live on the fourth floor of Howick hall, which is located in the Noyer complex. I do not think that where I live is any more special than any other residence hall but there are a few unique things about it. I will be focusing on a few certain points such as, I will give you a brief history of the residence halls at Ball State University, daily life inside the floor bathroom, and the daily life in the food center.

interview for draft 4

I want to talk about Eric. Eric is an individual that I talked to about his daily routine in the bathroom. As a matter of fact, Eric is my roommate. We went to high school together and he is also a freshman at Ball State University. I began asking him about his routines and his response was, “Since I came to school my hygiene has slowed down a lot. I used to shower everyday, but now I shower about every three days.” He went on to talk about that the reason he doesn’t shower everyday is because he is extremely busy with all his schoolwork. Eric went on to also talk about the sink incident. He said that when he walked out of the room there was water everywhere. There was about three inches of standing water outside the bathroom and it also leaked into certain rooms and ruined many things. The culprit later came forward and confessed to his actions. Eric and I both don’t know who did it. Once I was done talking to Eric we went downstairs and ate dinner.

about the critiques

I took the advice of my peers very seriously and used it to create this essay. For the most part in the last half of the paper. I took their advice about my conclusion especially about connecting it to the introduction. One critique said that my paper was lagging toward the end of the first half, so I did my best in making it more exciting and pleasant for the readers.

Questions for the interviews:
1. Do you enjoy living in the residence hall?
2. Were you fearful of moving into a residence hall?
3. What is living with another person that you have never met before like?
4. Explain to me the awful smells coming from the kitchen.
5. Do you know who tore the sink from the wall?
6. What is your main source of entertainment during the week/weekend when living in Howick?
7. How was the transition from living at home to living on your own?
8. How do you feel about hall sports? Do you have any unique stories about hall sports?
9.Do you get along with the RA? Do you believe they are useful?
10. Elevator or stairs?
11.How do you feel about the type of bathroom inside the residence hall?
12. How do you deal with not having any privacy?
13. Do you agree with the concept of residence halls?
14.How useful do you believe the study lounge actually is?
15.How do you feel about doing your laundry?

I interviewed  a student that lives only a few doors down from me. Joe is his name. Joe is a freshman at Ball State University, studying business. Joe spends most of his time on his skateboard, which means he was wearing a pair of tight pants and a loose-fitting T-shirt. Most of my friends throughout high school were skaters so i understood this type of dress. I have spoken to Joe before but never this professionally, so he wasn't uptight or anything. He was completely forthcoming. The beginning of the interview was slow because we just made small talk since I have talked to him before.

I saw an opportunity to talk/interview my RA, Andrew. Our Hall is shaped like an L, Andrew's room is located at the corner of the L. He is a Junior, going for a degree in spanish. Since Andrew is meant to be a leader on our floor so when i was interviewing him, i wouldn't get personal answers. He would always respond the way the school would want him to respond. He didn't have any unique stories, and wasn't very enthusiastic. He also didn't provide any significant information.

I conducted an interview with a student named Tj. Tj lives at the other end of the hall from me and he also works at the hall desk. Tj is a freshman with an undecided major. Tj is a pretty average guy I would say. I have also talked with Tj before so he didn't mind me asking him some questions.

Freewrite 2/27

There aren't many words, jargon, or lingo that are specific to my subculture, which is the fourth floor of my residence hall that I reside in. Although, there are one or two. First of all, the term RA is frequently used in a college life setting, particularly a residence hall. A resident advisor (RA) is in charge of supervising an entire floor inside any certain residence hall.  They are there to keep order on the floor, provide someone to talk to if  you need that, or just a friend to hang out with.
I don't know about many other residence hall around the United States, but my residence hall has trash room, and it smells quite horrible.  The Trash room is closer to my room than many others on the floor, which means i usually have the opportunity to smell the awkward smells coming from this room. Since the people that clean our floor do not work on weekends, the trash builds up. By the end of Sunday, the room is overflowing with rotting garbage.

Box 11

I chose the fourth floor of my residence hall because it is a place that i spend a lot of my time so i will be able to observe and take notes over many things. Since I technically live where my subculture is, I believe some of my positions may affect what I will see in my field. An example of this would be in the floor kitchen. Certain students feel as if they do not need to clean any used dishes that they might have used, so they just leave it on the counter in this kitchen. Day after day the moldy food rots away as it sits there. I was the person in my family that always had to do the dishes after a meal, so I was never used to any weird smells from the kitchen. It repulses me that people just do not to clean dishes that they had just used. So, since I live on this floor and have to walk by this room every day, my opinion may be effected.
